About This Item

Full Description

This standard covers nine coating systems for the protection of the exterior surfaces of steel pipelines and associated fittings used by the water supply industry in aboveground locations. The coating systems covered are not necessarily equivalent in terms of cost or performance, but are presented so that the coating system can be selected that best meets the site-specific project requirements. The coating systems covered by this standard are not intended for underground applications, nor are they intended for external pipe surfaces that will be in contact with potable water. The maximum service temperature of the coating systems listed in this standard is based on the maximum service temperature of potable water. The purpose of this standard is to define the minimum requirements for coating the exterior of aboveground steel water pipelines and fittings, including coating systems, surface preparation, coating material information requirements, coating application, inspection, and testing.
