Full Description

This paper describes how Pinellas County Utilities (PCU) performed a baseline use study to understand how residential customers were using water and what potential existed in the existing residential customers for saving water through conservation. In order to obtain this information, PCU contracted with Aquacraft, Inc. of Boulder, Colorado to perform a baseline use study. An analysis of billing data was first performed to obtain general information on the water use patterns of the customers. After this, flow recorders were used to obtain highly detailed information on water use patterns in the households. A sample of 100 single family and 20 multi-family/manufactured housing households were logged and the water use was disaggregated into individual end uses. These customers were also surveyed for additional information such as the number of persons living in the home. Includes 14 references, tables, figures.
