This standard provides minimum requirements for coal-tar protective exterior coatings and interior linings used in the potable water supply industry for buried steel water pipelines. Topics covered include requirements for: hot-applied, coal-tar enamel and its exterior and interior application to pipe, special sections, connections, fittings, and field procedures; hot-applied, coal-tar base tapes for application to special sections, connections, and fittings; and, alternative coal-tar coating systems, wraps, and procedures for external coating systems that provide additional coating protection for use in severe trench locations.
