Full Description

The apparently contemporaneous occurrence of minimal pump submergence at several wells owned by United Water New York (UWNY) (formerly the Spring Valley Water Company) in Rockland County, New York, in the early 1990s prompted the completion of a hydrogeologic study to determine the cause(s) of the limitation and methods for identifying precursory conditions indicative of future occurrences. Of major concern was the possibility of the County's groundwater resources. Consequently, the completion of the evaluation was deemed necessary to prevent future pump submergency limitations from adversely affecting the ability of the water company to maintain an adequate groundwater supply at all times. This paper discusses the study regarding pump submergence limitations observed between 1989 and 1993 at UWNY wells tapping the Brunswick Group Aquifer.
