Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by outlining the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requirements for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for providing affordable technologies for small systems to comply with new rules for chronic contaminants, including small system variances and the affordability criterion used by the USEPA. The applicability of this requirement is outlined along with results to date, the National Drinking Water Advisory Council's (NDWAC) recommendation, and the March 2006 Federal Register notice. Information is outlined on topics that include: states' support of small systems; state views on the SDWA affordability provisions; creative approaches/alternatives; suggested variance conditions; interim approaches to supplying MCL-quality water; and, states' support of the recommendations of the NDWAC.
