This slide presentation outlines a study with the objectives of conducting long term (18 months) testing with ceramic membranes for performance and the effect of pretreatment. Topics outlined include: advantages of ceramic membranes; concerns of ceramic membranes; structure of ceramic membranes; filtration and backwashing mechanisms; Japanese installations; important research steps; testing objectives; chemical cleaning; pilot testing; Effect of pH Between Chemical Cleans; and, cost comparison. Concluding remarks include: large amount of Acid Hydrophilic NOM, next phase to use MIEX as pretreatment; increasing pH from 5.5 to 7 improved formation of cake and allowed better recovery; lower pH increased fouling reduced economic operation; and, flux can be increased to 150 lmh by carefully optimizing coagulation.
