About This Item

Full Description

The main objective of this research was to investigate the removal of natural organic matter (NOM) through adsorption using iron-impregnated pumices from various natural sources. The use of original or surface-modified pumices to remove NOM in water treatment operations was not investigated in the available literature. The impacts of natural pumice source, particle size fraction, pumice dose, pumice surface chemistry and specific surface area, iron impregnation, water pH and temperature, and NOM source on the ultimate extent and rate of NOM removal were studied in detail. The performances of iron-impregnated pumices in removing NOM were also compared with those of commercial granular activated carbons (GAC). Includes 28 references, tables, figures.
