Users should review the definitions, and technical papers that are listed in the References and in the Bibliography to gain an understanding of failure analysis issues. Why a cable, joint, or termination fails is an important part of understanding trends and planning for improvements in system reliability.

Purpose

The purpose of this Guide is to provide an umbrella document for a series of guides that will cover specific methods that may be used in the failure analysis of cable, joints and terminations. A separate guide will be proposed to cover the failure analysis of cable, joints and terminations. The additional guides would have the same document number with a decimal extension similar to the C37 and C57 series of standards.
