Techstreet Now Offers Best Practices for Process Industry

Ann Arbor, MI USA - August 21, 2006 Today, Thomson Scientific and the process industry consortium known as Process Industry Practices (PIP) announced a sales and licensing agreement to offer PIP Practices in single copy and multi-user subscription formats on the Techstreet website, www.techstreet.com. Techstreet, a business unit of Thomson Scientific, uses web-based technologies to speed delivery of industry codes, standards and technical information to over 125,000 customers worldwide.

PIP is a self-funded consortium of process industry companies that share the goal of reducing process plant costs through the development and implementation of common industry practices for projects and maintenance work. The Practices offer detailed design, procurement, and construction methods for process manufacturing facilities based on a compilation and harmonization of existing member company internal standards. The Practices encompass 8 disciplines, including: Civil/Structural/Architectural, Coatings/Insulation/Refractory, Electrical, Machinery, Piping, P&ID, Process Control and Vessels. Related industries such as power, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals will also find the PIP harmonization process and published Practices to be of value. Versions of the U.S. voluntary recommended Practices can be used as the basis to meet international requirements.

According to Andrew Bank, Director of Business Development at Techstreet, "PIP Practices are very relevant to our engineering audience and offer a valuable addition to the industry standards our customers already use. The Practices offer a way to achieve significant cost savings on capital projects and related maintenance work, reduce the costs for maintaining internal company standards and improve knowledge management strategies."

Customers can visit the PIP information store at http://www.techstreet.com/info/pip.tmpl, where they can search, order and download from the complete catalog of PIP Practices and related industry content. Practices are available for single-copy purchase in print or PDF format, or as part of a multi-user, web-based annual subscription.
