CIE Partners with Techstreet to Launch New Web Store
Thomson Scientific Signs Agreement with International Commission on Illumination
Ann Arbor, MI USA; Wien, Austria - July 27, 2005 Today, Thomson Scientific and the Commission
Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE), International Commission on Illumination, announced they have recently
launched the new CIE online web shop at http://www.cie.co.at/. The business agreement calls for Techstreet,
a business unit of Thomson Scientific, to design, build, promote and fully manage the new CIE online
standards store. This includes digital file management, document procurement, fulfillment and customer
service for CIE customers around the world. This is the first time that CIE will make its technical standards
available for purchase on the Internet.
A standards body recognized by ISO, IEC and regional organizations like CEN, CIE develops and publishes
industry standards, technical reports, and conference proceedings dealing with scientific and industrial
aspects of lighting, illumination, and optics. The new CIE web shop is a one-stop source for CIE documents
and related industry standards in electronic and print format. Additional services include free unlimited
standards tracking and the only web-based standards subscription service offering immediate online access to
a custom set of standards for multiple users anywhere in the world.
Franz Hengstberger, Vice President of Publications at CIE, explains that "the new online store will make CIE
standards and technical documents more accessible than ever before. With this new e-commerce business model,
we can now serve our world-wide base of customers and members with easy online ordering in Euros, automatic
member discounts and document delivery 24 hours a day. This unique partnership will enable us to focus more
on our core competencies while Techstreet manages sales and delivery."
Andrew Bank, Director of Business Development for Techstreet notes that "Our proven technology satisfies the
needs of engineers and their support staff by making it easy to obtain and manage the technical information
they need to do their jobs. By applying our web-based tools and proven e-commerce methods to CIE's operation,
we can increase their net sales and significantly advance their technology infrastructure."
