Gary A. Smith Named New General Manager at Techstreet

Ann Arbor, MI April 26, 2005 - Today, The Thomson Corporation (NYSE:TOC; TSX: TOC) announced that Gary A. Smith has been named Vice President, General Manager at Techstreet. Gary will oversee daily operations and provide strategic product planning and business development support. The Techstreet e-commerce website and web-based subscription service provide a one-stop source for online delivery of industry codes and standards to engineering professionals around the world.

Gary joins Techstreet after six years at Thomson Gale, a world leader in information solutions for libraries. He most recently served as Vice President of Technical Services, overseeing adherence of Gale technology offerings to library industry standards. He also had responsibility for billing and support of online services and was a driving force in the successful launch of the new Gale Online Delivery System. Prior to his role in Technical Services, Gary served as Vice President of International Sales, where he merged numerous companies and organizations resulting in impressive growth for Thomson Gale outside the U.S. market.

Prior to joining Thomson Gale, Gary held various positions at ProQuest, where he helped design and launch ProQuest Direct to the international marketĀ and provided product and sales support for the Inspec database.

Gary replaces Gregg Hammerman, former Director of Operations, who along with Andrew Bank, co-founded Techstreet as an Internet start-up in 1996. Gregg recently left the company to pursue travel and educational opportunities. Techstreet was acquired by The Thomson Corporation in 2003.
